We gain points for almost everything: leading a lap, reaching speed limits or jumping into different heights – while the game shows us special action camera shots about these movements, showing us the undercarriage of the vehicles. The game makes a leaderboard about our races: notes every race time, and the car we achieve this time with, and does the same with lap times. Additionally, the AI isn’t an easy opponent: it horns when it doesn’t like the crashes and pays back for every collision we make with them, making life more difficult, but the feeling of the victory pays back for all the suffering. Sometimes an easy sprint, a lap race other times, and there are championships and elimination events too, and two version of the latter: one where every end of a lap causes a knockout, and one where every race drops the last finisher out. But until then a long way waits for the players: the total of events is thirty in both campaign (there are bonus events too), but it doesn’t mean exactly thirty races. As always, there are other game modes too, like Quick Match, where the AI picks the car and the track, the Custom Match, where you can set everything, and You’re the Cop in Hot Pursuit, where you are the police’s wheelman.īoth campaign’s event tree is long and far-reaching: only the first race is mandatory, where you will open two other races, and these are opening other events until halftime, where the game starts to reduce the selection and lead the to the one final round. Choose any of them, but one thing is for sure: you will have almost 50 cars to compete, and approximately two dozen of track on four scenes to achieve your final goal. For this, two campaigns are available for the players: one is Championship, where you have to be the fastest in legal races, and the other is Hot Pursuit, where speed isn’t everything, from time to time cops make life difficult. The base didn’t change since the predecessor: be the fastest and never get caught by the cops, or do the opposite, catch all of the speed hunters to get calm in their cells. Hot Pursuit 2 was the successor of the third game, and was developed by two teams: the PC, Xbox and GameCube version was done by EA Seattle, while the PlayStation 2’s game came from Black Box Games, which wasn’t part of Electronic Arts yet, and they worked on the series over ten years for this game.
